It is so good to have a confinement lady! I can't say enough how thankful I am.
Here's a list of things she's done that I can't imagine my grandma or mum doing this much for me:
- Sterilise all the bottles and pump accessories regularly
- Boil and bring to me the pail of herbal bath water
- Cook all 3 meals and bringing my food to the table, and thereafter, washing it for me (like how a domestic helper would do)
- Wash the baby's clothes, the handkerchiefs and swaddle cloths
- Clean baby each and every time she poos and change the diapers regularly
- Wake up at night for night feeds
- Boil herbal soup
- Boil red date tea and bring it to my room
- Bath the baby
So many! I can't imagine mum doing it for me. But on the other hand, mum prepared a lot for me too. She prepared the ingredients for me on my first day of discharge. She also brought the CL to the market the next day to buy the rest of the ingredients, and continuously buy the ingredients needed for the rest of the day. She also helped me settle the orientation with the CL and show her the things around the house. She also cleaned Reuben's room, the fan and prepare the bassinet to ensure that things are ready when the baby comes back. She also prepared the Epsom salt for me for my salt bath.
Mum really did a lot and I'm thankful for that too. I can't imagine receiving the same support if I were to stay in my mother in law's house; I think I won't have any food prepared on the day of discharge and I would not know how to orientate the CL around the house, bring her to buy the ingredients etc, and it would certainly be an added stress.
Thank God for family.
